08-25-2011 11:37 PM (This post was last modified: 08-25-2011 11:37 PM by andrewjs18.) I wanted to get some opinions on setting up a link directory on this forum where we can create categories (razors, blades, soaps, etc.) and then place links to sites within those categories. I personally would find this highly useful for people new to traditional shaving (myself) and it'll help create a central location for the different sites we all use to buy equipment. I have a link directory set up on another forum I run which you can view here: http://www.pazrt.com/forum/forum-link-categoriesas does my buddy: http://www.7173mustangs.com/forum-link-directorylet me know what you think. if you think it's a good idea, we'll need to come up with some categories and start adding links to fill up those categories. |

Sounds like a great idea to me. "Orange is the happiest color" ~ Frank Sinatra "Sometimes it's all in how you say something" ~ Brooke |
The concept looks interesting. Freddy |
I thought so too. I'll get working on the mod. does anyone want to come up with a few categories? I know of one that I think will be beneficial to newbies - "Helpful Shaving Videos". |

This is probably one of the most important. But one that would be a little more time consuming would be the purveyors of our hobby. Not necessarily the big ones, but some of the smaller specialty stores around the world. I believe Brooke knows a few; Selhov and some of the others could certainly help. Just thinking out-loud.

Just thinking out-loud. check it out so far (note: the forum is hidden and can only be accessed directly. once I add links to that section, I'll add a link to the top of the forum to access the link): http://damnfineshave.com/forum-links |
Well it certainly wouldn't hurt but I believe it would be of little use to the majority.
Apart from "How to make lather etc." videos, ostensibly it would just be a list of vendors. I think most experienced shavers have a list of vendors saved under their favorites list a mile long.
The principal benefit would be for newbies. Best, Andy.Wokeupgotoutofbeddraggedacombacrossmyheadfoundmywayupstairsandhadasmokeandsomebodyspokeandiwentintoadream. |

The principal benefit would be for newbies. I think it would be better than a newbie starting new threads asking for links to buy supplies, but again, JMHO. I'm a newbie to traditional shaving and have almost 0 links to buy supplies, so I could find it to be extremely beneficial. |
selhov shaving brush lover Posts: 1,216 Joined: Nov 2009 Location: wales u.k. the link directory sounds very intoresting and off great help to all.firstly off corse it would help newbee,s to be able to axess shaving sights for goody,s without hunting the e/bay sights. also for the guys and gals that have thair favorite sights it does no harm to have and know some new vendors.good luck. |

Maybe start a shave forum just for newbie's. - you could admin. it. Best, Andy.Wokeupgotoutofbeddraggedacombacrossmyheadfoundmywayupstairsandhadasmokeandsomebodyspokeandiwentintoadream. |

Although I'm not sure where else you can go with this. You could put a link for blogs, but not sure how many you could link, there is mantic, the guy that was on The Today show but don't know if he updates his still. The blogs couldn't have vendor or forum associations. If you try and put up a link directory for vendors, there are so many. Maybe company websites but some of those have shopping sections, so I'm not sure if its fair to vendors that have treated us well like Bullgoose and Razorblades&more.

I would definitely want to include those that have been so good to us. And yeah, this would probably be most helpful for those just getting started. But isn't that a good thing?

But isn't that a good thing? As said earlier, it wouldn't do any harm. I think perhaps a priority could be unsrambling the dumping together of all the unrelated category headings in the "Shaving" section. Here we have "The Shave Cave" mixed in with "Soaps and Creams" and "The Haul" mixed in with "Razors and blades" etc. There really should be a seperate "Straights" razor section instead of being put under the general heading of "Razors and Blades." This should be done not only to attract newbies but also to attract the dedicated experienced straight enthusiast into browsing and possibly joining DFS. At the moment the guys that are interested in straights have to sift through DE's, SE's, and Razor blades to find talk of straights. My .2 cents.
