| 07-01-2011 03:41 PM I just got the last of my June haul in the mail today so I'll start off the July haul. I guess the T&H #10 shave cream is new so will be curious to give it a whirl. It was only £8.95 ($14.39) so it was worth a chance. I also managed a few bottles of after shave, cologne, and EdT as well as talc. The Somersets makes a perfect pre-shave oil and comes in such a small plastic bottle that it"s perfect for travel. Freddy |
| 07-01-2011 03:45 PM Looks great Freddy, I am very interested in your opinion of the James Bronnley, and the Aqua Vera looks interesting also. And look at that, a Markie's cologne! Gary |

And look at that, a Markie's cologne!Hi Gary, The M&S (Markie, ya gotta love it!) cologne and talc were so inexpensive that it was worth a shot. If I don't like them then not much lost. The Aqua Vera is a very inexpensive Swedish aftershave (About the only inexpensive thing there. Don't even ask me about the 3 mile cab ride for $30.00! :jawdrop: ). It has what I can only describe as a lemon/tobacco scent and I like it. The James Bronnley is very nice. It has a citrus scent that I find perfect for the upcoming warm months. To quote the description on the box, "A refined and classic fragrance. Seville oranges blend with bergamot, exotic spices and fresh aromatic herbs, resting on a base of rich cedar and mosses. Professional formula with natural toning properties." Hmmmm, 'Professional' formula as opposed to what, 'Unprofessional'? :hmm: Freddy |

| 07-01-2011 05:32 PM Krissy, I really like the 4711. I ran out of cologne on my trip so while I was in New Jersey I picked up the bottle, taking a chance since I didn't know what the scent would be like. It will definitely be used. The only thing I don't like is that the scent doesn't linger very long. :ashamed1: Freddy |

| 07-04-2011 03:06 AM Well, being the 4th of July and all, it was perhaps timely that I took for a test drive my recently arrived, made in the USA, Gillette Long Handled Black Beauty. Code is T3 making it a 1973 vintage with all metal head , no plastic. It is in pristine condition and appears to be unused. The seller said he believed it was NOS. (no way of proving this of course.) or mint. Anyway, for less than the cost of an average condition Black Beauty on ebay.... I'm a happy Mousketeer ! ( say what ever happened to Annette Funicello ?.....unfortunate accident with a mouse trap perhaps? ) It shaves better IMO than my Fatboy and Slim adjustable simply due to the longer handle which means more weight is concentrated at the head and so it just glides under it's own momentum. ( well almost. ) I notice that it's a tiny bit milder than either the FB or the Slim. Set on 8 the BB is equivalent to the FB or Slim set to 7. The head is marginally smaller than the FB and Slim so it's easier to use whizzing around the face and particularly under the Schnozz. Will it upstage my favorite EJ Chatsworths, probably not. I don't know yet, too early to tell... but it might come close. Best, Andy. Wokeupgotoutofbeddraggedacombacrossmyheadfoundmywayupstairsandhadasmokeandsomebodyspokeandiwentintoadream. |
| 07-04-2011 06:36 AM Very nice Andy, interesting how the longer handle gives you a better shave. I will say though that I was under the impression that the model that got the name 'Black Beauty' was the plastic head model. Gary |

Here's the history of the BB as I understand it..... The first Black Beauty was introduced in 1969 as a short handle model. Gillete gave it the name "Super Adjustable" It was nicknamed BB as the metal handle was coated in black resin. Prior to it's introduction in 1966 there was a black painted handled Gillette Super speed with a silver tip ( TTO twist end. ) The following year 1970 saw the introduction of a 4 inch long handle Super adjustable and both versions long and short were sold side by side until about 1974. The short handle version was then dropped after this. A gold plated version was made for just one year. The 1970's BB's were all metal construction including the underside of the head however toward the end of it's production life, the 1980's manufactured BB's featured black plastic on the underside of the head. The BB's or Super Adjustables were discontinued toward the end of 1985. A similar long handled companion model with a black handle called "The Knack" was introduced in 1966 and manufactured until 1976. It is easily distinguished by it's strongly tapered handle. Interesting to note that the plastic head base plate models sell for less than the all metal. Best, Andy. | 07-04-2011 01:30 PM Andy, that is a great razor. I have the short handle version and it is probably my favorite among the Fat Boy, Slim, and Super Adjustable (Black Beauty). My least favorite of the three is the one that usually commands the most money, the Fat Boy. I just don't like the contour of the head and because of that it isn't as easily moved around my face as the other two. Freddy |
| 07-19-2011 03:37 PM I was in an Indian market today, buying tea, when I spotted this Axe (Denim scent) shaving cream. I remember Denim being sold in the '80s as an inexpensive aftershave/cologne and thought I'd give it a try. Freddy |
