| 08-04-2011 11:10 AM there's a plugin for mybb (forum software we use) to install a photo gallery on the forum. if people think it'll be useful for the users on this site, I'll add it. might not be bad to use for shave of the day photos and other equipment photos and etc. my buddy runs the gallery plugin on his forums if you want to check out a demo: http://www.7173mustangs.com/ezgallery.php |
| 08-04-2011 12:37 PM Andrew, could this be used in place of something like Photobucket? Could one post the SOTD pics in here and have the pic show in SOTD forum? ~Bob~ 'Life is like a bus ride. By the time you find a seat, you've reached your stop.' -Author Unknown |
| 08-04-2011 04:04 PM Andrew, sorry for the lack of tech savvy here but how does it work? Would I be able to just get a picture from iPhoto? Right now, I snap a photo, load it into iPhoto where I crop it, upload it to Picnik and/or Photobucket where I add text and resize it, and then copy it into DFS for SOTD, The Haul, etc. How would this plug-in work? | 08-05-2011 04:05 AM What are the advantages of using the plug in as opposed to using photobucket etc ? Best, Andy. Wokeupgotoutofbeddraggedacombacrossmyheadfoundmywayupstairsandhadasmokeandsomebodyspokeandiwentintoadream. |

| 08-05-2011 12:06 PM Will the photo gallery eat up forum bandwidth to cause problems for the forum later down the road? I for one am a fan of photobucket because you can create albums for your photo's to keep track of different subject matters. You can also make them private or public as well. So even if your album is private (so no one can lift and your photos) you can still use the links to display them. One other thought while on the subject is the topic of linking photo's. http://www.boogiejack.com/copyband.html It is bandwidth theft to hotlink photos which means finding photo's on another site and using that link to display that image on another site. It is a crime to do that, but many don't realize that. Depending on the issue it could be a felony in the eyes of the law. I've been subject to that theft and it uses up a lot of bandwidth, bandwidth I was paying for. It took a bit to track it down and it was a pain to get the person doing it to stop. (I believe my website host threatened to send lawyers after the lady doing it if she didn't stop it. She was using my photo's on ebay) I know it's done often on these types of forums, but it's really wrong and shouldn't be done. So if your going to use someone elses image that is hosted on another site, you really should copy that photo to your hard drive (computer) and then upload that photo to another photo host like photobucket and then use that link to display your image. Okay I'll get off my soapbox now. http://www.prairie-creations.com/shop/index.php click to find Prairie Creations ~:~"~:~"~:~"~:~"~:~"~:~"~:~"~:~"~:~"~:~"~:~"~:~ "believe you can and you're halfway there" Theodore Roosevelt |

I might see if someone can put together a plugin to accomplish that. but as always, I'd still keep an account with photobucket or what have you to have a backup of all of your photos and to keep stuff private if you don't want it to be seen. personally, I run my own photo gallery here: gallery.andrewshemo.com Quote:One other thought while on the subject is the topic of linking photo's. http://www.boogiejack.com/copyband.html It is bandwidth theft to hotlink photos which means finding photo's on another site and using that link to display that image on another site. | 08-05-2011 06:18 PM Honestly Andrew if your paying for the website, having someone steal bandwidth by using photo links is a huge PITA because of how it works. Say someone uses my photo on their blog, then when their blog page opens it's counting against the bandwidth I pay for even without going to my website. So it doesn't always promote something. Say someone searches out art of shaving shave soap and uses their image. That photo could be taken from any number of websites and someone is paying for it and it might not always be the company who's item being sold. Does that make sense. Many business get a little snippy about people stealing their bandwidth. When it's just as easy for someone to upload a photo to photobucket and take a little extra time to do it correctly. http://www.prairie-creations.com/shop/index.php click to find Prairie Creations ~:~"~:~"~:~"~:~"~:~"~:~"~:~"~:~"~:~"~:~"~:~"~:~ "believe you can and you're halfway there" Theodore Roosevelt |
| 08-06-2011 12:00 PM Andrew, I get the impression there's no real enthuiasm for it. Personally I not sure just how useful it would be however, I don't think it would hurt to give it a go and see. Your call. Best, Andy. Wokeupgotoutofbeddraggedacombacrossmyheadfoundmywayupstairsandhadasmokeandsomebodyspokeandiwentintoadream. |
