I have a Simpson colonel X2L, and hardly use it. the problem is I find the brush to have too short a loft and to be too scrubby. I know people seem to love this brush, so before I end up selling it, I am asking how best to use it. I generally use it load soap and face lather. Even that seems to post the problem of only being large enough to provide 2-3 passes. I am asking the following:

How do you use your colonel?
How many passes are you getting out of it?
Do you mainly face lather with it or do you use it for bowl lathering creams?

Thank you for your ideas!

Hi Rockford i have the colonel X2L and i really love this brush as all my simpsons i think once you have the likes and dislikes of the colonel you will love it.
firstly i never have used mine for face larthering i would asume you would have to return to the soap to keep your 3+ passes going.one thing i do is i never skimp on soap or cream i make mutch more than i nead.
for me i loud up from the soap tub or pot and transfer to a shaving mug and bild up my larther untill i have as mutch as i nead. for me 3 passes does the job but thair is enough left for more. Then i face paint my larther mutch more than i do swirls.I honestly think if you bowl larther insted of face larthering and use plenty of shave soap or cream it will be a total difrent brush for you.
But i think the colonelX2L is a better bowl lartherer but remember thats only my opinion next time you use the colonel loud the brush and bowl larther then go back to the soap if not enough in the bowl first time,i hope this help,s and gives the colonel X2L a second chance it,s a super brush.good luck and let us now how you get on hoping this helps.Cheers

I am reporting back after reading Selwyn's advice post. I made 4 test lathers last night using the Colonel X2L. The first 3 lathers were made using C&E Sienna soap, while the 4th was made using MWF. The 1st attempt did not go well, as I probably flooded the bowl too quickly with water. Attempt number 2 was more successful, as I regulated the water and swirled, plunged, mashed, and stirred. Number 3 was fully successful, and resulted in a well hydrated lather. I really do love the smell of Sienna! I was getting confident, so I decided to try bowl lathering MWF. I followed the standard advice of heavily loading a drier brush, and adding water in slowly. After loading the brush, I took it to the bowl and began to stir without adding any water. After 20 seconds I could see it was not going anywhere, so I began adding water at a rate of approximately 5 drops per time. After the fourth or fifth time I added water drops, the lather became hydrated, shiny, and stable. It looked good enough to eat!!! I now understand the Colonel, and how to make it work for me!
