I loved the scent.  I can't wait to try the matching splash!

The fact that it has menthol is icing on the cake.

Adagio is awesome Hobbyist. Think cherry lemonade with the perfect amount of menthol. The other notes are subtle but do come out upon lathering.

Sounds similar to Dickens almost.

There is a certain connection due to the fact that the same cherry note is used in both. That said, the violet leaf absolute sets them apart quite strongly, in my view. Smile

So I received my jar of Cologne Russe just a smidge early - I had been scheduled to be sent the soap after writing an article on fragrance for the B&M newsletter, and finding the package was a pleasant surprise Smile. Thanks much Barrister_N_Mann!

I shaved with it immediately. WOW!! Fans of Cologne Russe will be very impressed. This release combines the scent we all know and love with the performance of Glissant, seated properly in the modern, classy packaging that has been totally updated and transformed for the better. Behold:

As usual, the Glissant base provides exceptional luxury-class performance. Performance was excellent in every category.

But the scent... Throughout the shave I was catching whiffs of the Cologne Russe, and it was simply divine. This is the first Russian cologne scent I've tried that actually brings to mind images of pre-revolution Russian aristocracy. For those that aren't yet familiar with the scent, this is a fragrance that combines fresher notes like petitgrain with the elegance of an ambered base. Probably due to the violet, the scent has a slightly powdery texture that is accented by spices. When smelling Cologne Russe, I think of paintings of the Leib Guard ("Life Guard"), the element of the Russian Imperial Guard directly responsible for the safety of the Russian Emperor. Boot leather, clean powder, and musky splashed-on cologne. Gorgeous.

If it isn't yet obvious, I adore this stuff, and find it especially suitable for cooler weather. Once you try Cologne Russe, you'll see why it is one of my favorite original fragrances in the shaving world.

I found Adagio to be similar to Dickens last year. A better nose can tell them apart (maybe I could side by side), but the cherry was too forward in both for me.

Is the new Cologne Russe the same scent strength as the original release?

Is Adagio in the new packaging like Cologne Russe? I will be picking up Cologne Russe too by the way. I love that scent.

Will had stated that Adagio's packaging was the same as last year's sans the barcode which was moved to the bottom.

Thanks. I probably read that too but forgot. At least the barcode was moved to the bottom.
