But the top caps are different, one has equal blade exposure the whole length of the head & the other has a more blade exposure at one of the head narrowing down to less blade exposure the other end. I don't know why it's like that. Haven't yet emailed ATT to find out why. I prefer the S1 as it's smooth & efficient & less fussy in what blade you use(with the symmetrical cap). The S2 is more fussy on the blade you use. As to the caps, the uneven cap works best on the S2, I find it makes the S2 a tad more smoother. But on the S1 a bit more aggressive.

Google "above the tie slant cap change" and the top result from B&B has a discussion of the change that Stan made to the cap. I can't access the B&B site here from work (it's blocked for some reason), but my recollection is that Stan made the change as he was getting questions about the "uneven" blade exposure (blade-to-cap) even though the blade exposure (blade-to-baseplate) is even.

Here is some pics of the caps so you can see the difference.
First the uneven cap on both bottom plates,

and now the symmetrical top cap

Hope you guys can see the difference in the caps. Now going to check what was said in B&B about the different slant caps.
Let me know what you think.

In the B&B thread it appears they decided to call the uneven reveal version 1 and the even(ish) reveal version 2. According to ATT, there are no v1 caps left now and only v2 caps will be shipped from this point on. My understanding is that the v2 is somewhat smoother shaving -- which stands to reason. Both the S1 and the S2 are described as having the same blade gap at .61 mm. I'm presuming that due to the blade overlapping the teeth on the OC there is slightly more blade exposure with the same gap making it a bit more aggressive/efficient.

One of my favorite DE razors is my Gillette OC New which is supposed to have a gap of .58, so either of these razors should be right up my alley and would, I presume, be pretty similar.

I have both caps and never found a difference in shave. It looks odd, but performance is the same. I used to own a 2015 set but was not using it and wanted a 2014 set. Stan had sent me a replacement cap, so I kept the odd cap and sold the set with the new cap.

if you order now you will get the uneven blade exposure. so do not listen to the whole v1 or v2 thing. i own 3 different att slant head sets. one i ordered early 2015 had uneven exposure. second was around august came with even exposure. and the newest one from january 2016 now has uneven exposure again. i sent stan pics when i got the uneven one thinking i should have received v2 even version and he said he only had a handful of those and did not make them again since late 2014 but then people were still getting them even though he swore they were no longer made (as did i on the next one i ordered) and it seems now they are all uneven again. so maybe this is a v3? no one really knows. i can say i personally prefer the even cap with the s2 and the uneven with the s1. but note the baseplates are also different that i was sent with each respective top cap. its slight but they they are different. now i want to try the newest ones because people say they are much smoother then before. i really dont need another though lol

Ditto to the people who recommend the S1 for daily shaving. S2 is the best for multiple day growth IMO.
