I must preface by saying I don't own any Semogue badger brushes and I only own two Semogue boars.

Say wot !!! - yeah, sad but true !

Compared to many here that own quite a few Semogues my opinion is obviously not based on a wide range of experience but here goes........

If I had to choose between the two I own, namely the 1305 and the SOC boar, I'd choose....

The 1305.

Why ? - As a bowl latherer that mostly use soaps, I prefer the 1305's greater backbone and ability to dig into a puck of soap and extract more product more quickly.

As the knot is only 22mm compared to the SOC's 24mm I also find I can generate lather faster than with the thicker SOC. ( more flex so a greater whipping action. )
IME the 1305 gives up it's contents freely and easily where as I find the SOC tends to hog a fair amount of lather.
Physically I find the 1305 to be the perfect size as well, the SOC is just a bit too clumsy an instrument. ( make a good match for a Merkur Futur perhaps ! - LOL !)
Finally the green and white paint job is so individual and unique as well.

So for me 1st place goes to the almost legendary, veteran performer, the 1305.
IMO it's yet to be equalled by any other manufacturers boar brush that I've tried and in a play off with what is often said to be Semogues best boar ( the SOC ) I think it still rocks and rules !

How 'bout you ?

Best,
Andy.

I have the 1305 and the original SOC limited edition

I prefer the 1305 because of all the reason you already mentioned, Andy. I still use the SOC but the 1305 is definitely my favorite.

Andy, my very first Semogue (and boar, for that matter) was the 1305 and it still remains in my rotation. It is just a fabulous brush. I also own the first SOC, the 2009 LE, the 830, and the 2000. In all honesty, I would have to say that my favorite is whichever one I choose to use on a particular day. It is for just this reason that I have more than one brush (or, for that matter, razor, blade, cream, soap, EdT, pre-shave, post shave, talc Rotflol ). I like the variety. It is why my shaves never become something I just have to do but are actually things to look forward to. Silly, I guess, but there it is.

Hey Freddy, well made point !....I guess most of us would go along with you when it comes to variety keeping it fresh.
However if you had to choose a desert island brush,... which one would it be ?

Best,
Andy.

Freddy's post makes me wonder, "Has anyone received a Semogue brush from the latest generation of of Semogue products that was really a terrible shaving tool"?

I own a few Semogues including the original LE but my favorite is the 1305.
This brush out performs any and all at everything. Thumbsup

Andy, if I'm stuck on that desert island of yours then I'd have to say it would be the 1305. It was my first, it opened me up to the world of boar, and as Phil said, it does it all. (But are you sure I can't pack the others in my suitcase, too? [Image: happy0148.gif])

Brooke, in answer to your question, no. I even have one of the older 2000s with the handles that had the finish crack and peel and rather than return it to Leon for a new one, I kept it and it is still doing a beautiful job even if it is no longer beautiful to look at. Smile

Since actually learning how to use a boar brush, I haven't had a single bad Semogue. I haven't had one that was anything less than great, actually. The badgers are fantastic as well, in case you're not already tempted enough...

So hard to pick. I have the 1305, 1470, 1430 and SOC. I love them all. I like the SOC best for creams, the 1438 for soaps, and if I could keep just one for everything, it would be the 1305.

Best,
Mike

I have three, SOC boar and the two LE badgers. The LE '09 with the horn handle and badger is my favorite of any of my brushes maybe save one.
